How to Re-Route the audio in Windows XP

First go to your task bar you should see an icon that looks like this

Double click that icon and a window called "Volume Control" should pop up. Make sure that your Microphone level is at full and off mute as shown below Volcrtl
After that you need to click "Options" then click "Properties" then a window like this should appear

Then for the "Mixer Device" select "SoundMAX Digital Audio". Then under "Adjust Volume For" click "Recording". After that look under "Show The Following Volume Controls" Only select "Microphone" and "Stereo Mix" then click "Ok". A window like this should appear

Make sure that the Stereo Mix level is down to the first notch then select Stereo Mix now you are able to play sound coming from your system. When you are done with Stereo Mix click Microphone again.
